We would like to thank Vireo Sustainable Certification Sdn. Bhd. for the kind assistance and guidance towards Maliau Basin and Imbak Canyon in achieving GSTC certified accommodation provider. It was a challenging but rewarding journey to achieve this certification, and we are thrilled to have received it.
Yayasan Sabah (Maliau Basin Conservation Area and Imbak Canyon Conservation Area) are committed to being responsible tourism provider and minimizing our environmental impact, supporting local communities, and promoting cultural heritage. We believe that sustainable tourism is not only important for the environment and local communities but also for the long-term success of the tourism industry.
During the audit, the assessors showed a thorough understanding of the Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria and effectively applied them to the site.
Their recommendations were insightful, practical and addressed areas for improvement that were both environmental and social in nature. The assessment report highlighted the strengths of the site, such as the conservation and protection of the ecosystem, but also identified areas for improvement in waste management and energy conservation.
Overall, the assessment provided valuable insights into the current state of the Maliau Basin and Imbak Canyon Conservation area, and offered solutions to move towards a more sustainable future. The recommendations were well-received by the management and will serve as a useful strategy for future improvements.
Therefore, becoming a certified accommodation provider was a significant accomplishment for us, and we are grateful for the opportunity to showcase our commitment to sustainability. We hope that our efforts will inspire others in the industry to take similar steps towards becoming more sustainable and responsible tourism providers.
Once again, we thank you for your support and recognition of our achievement. We look forward to continuing our efforts towards sustainable tourism and making a positive impact on the environment and local communities.
